To stay in peak condition, your garden should be visited regularly. This doesn’t mean you have to get down on your hands and knees in the dirt everyday: you’ll just want to keep an eye on things to keep track of how your plants are doing, what’s ready to harvest, and if anything appears to be suffering. However, most people don’t feel they have time to keep a garden growing productively entirely on their own.
We offer bi-monthly maintenance to all of our clients. While these visits shouldn’t be the only attention your garden gets, it gives you a guarantee that your garden will get at least its minimum amount of tender loving care. For this reason we recommend the bi-monthly maintenance to all but the most avid and independent gardener. Our maintenance programs are priced at an hourly rate so that the more you are able to do in your garden, the less time we will need to spend which will lower your maintenance bill.
A lot of clients want to learn more about taking care of their own gardens. We are always happy to answer questions you have or refer you to good sources of information. We also invite you to participate in your garden... give us your insights, your ideas, and let us know if there is anything you find that concerns or confuses you. We can maintain your garden most effectively if we are told ahead of time about a potential pest or other problem.
A Year Round Garden
Because we have good growing weather all year, you can enjoy veggies from your
garden all year long, with proper maintenance. We try to avoid the cold-climate
model of gardening where plants go in at one time, grow till they die, and then the
garden gets entirely re-planted the next season. This model doesn’t work for
us because it leaves large gaps of time when you aren’t harvesting anything
from your garden. Heart Beet maintenance allows us to keep track of your plants and
how they can be replaced cyclically to give you a year-round supply of fresh
vegetables.
What Our Maintenance Covers
Heart Beet maintenance means that someone is working to ensure the health of your
garden. While we strive to design and plant in such a way that avoids problems,
ecosystems are complex and problems cannot always be avoided. Our maintenance comes
with a promise that we will attempt to solve all problems and keep your garden
equipped with everything that it needs: new plants, new mulch, compost, water.
There are, however, some factors in your garden’s health that are outside of our control. Abrupt changes in temperature, heavy rains, large pests (opossums, dogs, etc.) are a few examples of things which can unexpectedly take a toll on your plants. Though we will respond to these problems appropriately, Heart Beet does not consider itself responsible for damages to your garden due to factors outside our control.
Other Maintenance Components
In tandem with our weekly maintenance service,
we also offer inclusion in our composting service and
seed exchange.
